At Izzy's Place, we bring in senior dogs that are not as likely to be adopted as other younger, healthier dogs. Some of them are listed on the euthanasia list at shelters in Colorado and surrounding states, and some are being surrendered by the owners because of various reasons, including financial inability to take care of them medically. It is not uncommon for us to take in dogs that need this type of care. Unfortunately, that also means that the majority of our budget has to go towards veterinary care. At the moment, the dogs listed below need help in getting back to a healthy state. If you could help us by donating whatever you can afford, we would really appreciate it!
Boomer .... soulful brown eyes and a heart of gold
Boomer is thriving in his loving retirement home! Sadly, though, Boomer and four others were seized in an animal abuse case and Boomer was in the worst shape of them all. He was emaciated and in urgent need of vet care. His first rescue home got him started on the road to better health, was neutered, had a large mass removed from his leg and began gaining healthy weight. When he was strong enough to travel he made the trip from Lamar to Fort Collins.
Boomer visited Dr Ruth Altman, at Animal Haven(www.animalhavenvetclinic.com) for a thorough checkup, vaccinations and bloodwork. Sadly, Boomer has an inoperable tumor on his thyroid but Dr Altman researched different treatments to help him enjoy his last days to the fullest. Thanks to a generous donation from C.A.R.E.(www.caretransport.org) we are able to get Boomer started on meds to help lessen the inflammation, potentially slow the growth of the tumor and pain meds too.
He has built a bond with Jack, who is also an Izzy's Place special needs dog waiting to be adopted. Boomer will need high doses of compound medication and pain medication for the remainder of his life. We hope that you can help support Boomer with financial donations to cover his daily medications.
