Kami

Picture
Kami came to Izzy's Place in May 2010 and passed over the Rainbow Bridge on April 3, 2013.

Here's a message from her foster mom and founder of Izzy's Place:
In May 2010, Kami's life changed and so did mine.
The back of the SUV opened up and there stood a breathtakingly beautiful white German Shepherd. She stood tall and strong and looked a bit intimidating but as I approached she wagged her tail and planted a big huge slurpy kiss from my neck to the top of my head. Yup, she had just stolen my heart.
Kami is an amazing soul. She has such love about her, a presence so powerful that she often brings people to tears with overflowing emotion. Even after having spent 14 years tied to a 4 foot chain(yes the previous owners admitted to it) she never looks back. She lives in the moment, where life is good and she is surrounded by love.

Kami has spent the past few years as part of our family at the Sanctuary in Loveland but moved to NY - see below. She will spend her happy retirement years as an Izzy's Place kid.

On June 2, 2012, Paul Raucci, my husband and co-founder of Izzy's Place was tragically killed in an auto accident. Kami, along with several other seniors, joined me on the long trek from Colorado to Upstate NY, where they will continue living as part of Izzy's Place, at our new Sanctuary in Galway, NY(under construction:).

Kami's enjoying the soft green grass, exploring the fields and checking out the new scents around her. She's sweet, confident and loves to tease her Golden brother, Pierce, and will go to the ends of the earth to find a squeaky toy and squeak it in his face to tease him. And....he rolls his eyes and let's her have her fun.

Kami came to IP with atrophied muscles from lack of exercise, arthritis and hearing impaired. With twice daily walks and massage she quickly gained muscle tone and was able to join the others for long walks and even senior friendly hikes. She loves chasing rabbits in the fields, digging under yucca plants and sunning herself on the deck.

Although Kami made great progress she has been diagnosed with Degenerative Myelopathy, which is not painful but is causing her to lose use of her back legs & becoming incontinent. She still enjoys her daily walks but often her back legs give out so with the use of a special sling she's still able to continue her favorite long walks with everyone else each morning.

Each morning Kami wakes happy and full of life! She will remain here, part of our IP Rescue Family, throughout the remainder of her retirement years.

If you're able to donate toward Kami's care, you can use the Donate button below. In lieu of monetary donations, Kami is always in need of healthy dog food, fleece blankets, and tennis balls! Kami loves tennis balls!

With sincere thanks,
Shereen Raucci

Roscoe Update

Roscoe went over the rainbow bridge January 2013 surrounded by the many that loved him.
Roscoe was a sweet 12 year old neutered male and was the sweetest boy ever. He had the sweetest face ever seen, and loved to gently kiss you if you let him. He loved to have his ears scratched and gave kisses and enjoyed a foster home with his sister, Ripley, where they played and got plenty of love.

Handsome Lockee retired at Izzy's Place where he enjoyed napping in the sunshine, morning strolls and hanging out with all his furry siblings. ... RIP dear Lockee.....January 4, 2013

Picture
Lockee a part of our Izzy's Place family for just over a year. In March he celebrated his 15th birthday, dining on fresh salmon and sweet potato cake, surrounded by lot's of friends, family and love! He passed over the Rainbow Bridge, surrounded by his rescue family, on January 4, 2013. He has forever touched our hearts and changed our lives for the better

Lockee's family of 14 years left him behind when they moved so he was quite timid when he first arrived. He was also snappy showing signs of fear aggression but with patience and reassurance, he ha overcome that and loved his Rescue Family and trusted that he was in good hands. However, because of his reaction to new people we decided best that he remain at the Sanctuary, where he was very much loved and part of the family.

Molly~ crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on December 19, 2012

Picture
Sweet Molly had a smile that could capture your heart before you even knew, she could give the best slobbery kisses ever and since coming to rescue she knew TRUE LOVE! Molly had a sad past but she was very much loved by her rescue family and will always be remembered for her spirit, energy and smile. She was treated for Heartworm, overcame anxiety and learned to love and play and enjoy life to the fullest. Molly began to show signs of unpredictable behavior and after extensive testing it was determined by the veterinarians that Molly suffered from neurological condition and in her best interest she crossed over the Rainbow Bridge, surrounded by loved ones. Bless you Molly....those of us touched by you are better people for having known you.

Emily ....

Picture
Emily came to IP in April 2012. She was blind, suffered from painful glaucoma and had advanced kidney disease. Someone dumped her on a country road in Missouri. But as her adopted "MOM" says we won't hold a grudge against that person because Emily came to rescue, quickly captured our hearts and loved by all who had the pleasure of meeting her.

Emily might've been tiny in size but she was big in personality, courage and had a huge heart with love overflowing!

Emily passed over the Rainbow Bridge in December 2012, at her home, surrounded by her family, with love and respect.

Dear Emily, thank you for coming into our lives sweet girl. You have forever touched our hearts.

Lily - June 2012

Picture

Good looks AND great personality? Yep! Lily is both! She's a gorgeous 7-1/2 year old labradoodle, with a gorgeous soft white coat of fur, a smile that will melt your heart and over the top lovable, spunky, funny personality.

Lily loves everything life has to offer, like car rides, sunning herself on the deck, rolling in the grass, cuddling with her people and one of her all-time fave things to do is chew on a delicious buffalo bone. She'll carry it all over with her and even sleep next to it. Speaking of sleeping, Lily snores but it is kinda cute in a way:)

Lily's spayed, up to date on shots and heartworm negative. She's housetrained and trustworthy with free roam of the house while you're gone. One of her most endearing traits is the way she welcomes you home(or even if you just walk back into the room). Her whole body wags with delight!

On the way from MO to CO she conned her driver into letting her ride co-pilot and even convinced him she needed to stop at McDonald's on the way home for a treat.

UPDATE;  The weekend before the big fires in Colorado Springs, Lily went to the bridge.  She was suffering from "the bloat" and although her loving parents took her to an emergency vet, it was too late to save this precious angel.

STAN:
Don't be sad for me.....I am pain-free, running thru the fields, chasing the girls and smiling down at all who rescued me and Jack.

Picture
I lived a good life. My dad loved me and cared for me for all of my 11 years. When he got sick another family member promised to take care of me & my brother, Jack, when he passed but sadly that didn't happen. After Dad passed away, Mom was put in a nursing home and Jack and I were left in the basement. We were let out a couple times a day, sometimes left outside all night long. Mom's relative in Colorado searched everywhere for someone to adopt us both, or a rescue to help us. We really wanted, needed to stay together couldnt keep us together but most rescues. One fine day, Izzy's Place learned of our story and helped us. We got a ride from KS to CO, to live in a really great foster home with two other Boston Terriers, although those girls were a little more spry than us. But we had a real home, a real family, and lot's of love so we were going to make it work!

When I got to my foster home, they suspected I was ill so they got me to a good vet right away. That's when they learned I had an enlarged heart, two masses in my abdomen, and late stage kidney failure. I felt bad because my foster family was sad but I was glad that I was there & loved. It's the moments that matter and we never really leave you. We're always looking over you but we've got others to help so please don't be sad. On April 17, 2012 I let them know I was ready to cross the bridge and join my Dad. Tears were shed but don't be sad. I am finally at peace again, not struggling to take a breath and knowing Jack is in good hands I felt it was OK for me to let go. Dad and I are looking over Jack and all of you who helped us.

Now....Mag Pie and Clover(our BT step-sisters), you be sure to help Jack out, show him the way, let him think he's in charge occasionally. Most of all, have fun, love and be loved and I will always be your guardian angel...mixed with a wee bit of mischief:)

Love, Stan

Roscoe is a 9 year old Basset - Adopted March 2012 to Trish and Nate M

Picture
Roscoe came all the way from Arkansas. He's a super sweet boy who never stops wagging his tail. The first time he met his foster to adopt family he trotted alongside, not a care in the world, like he knew he had found love. His foster dad is a truck driver and wanted a pal to join him on the road and Roscoe makes a perfect riding companion.

His foster family says they all love him. How can you NOT? He gets in the trash when they're out - so typical of a hound. So guess they'll be putting their trash cans up and out of Roscoe's reach like so many of us do also.

Update: Sadly, Roscoe got into the trash again and ate something which was toxic.  He went to the bridge while being held in his loving family's arms.  You will be missed greatly, sweet boy!  God speed...

"Blessed are those who have earned the love of an old dog"
~ Sidney Jeanne Stewart

Picture
A sad stray dog, lost, lonely, confused....we named him Arthur because he reminded us of Dudley Moore's character in the movie...a little wobbly, in need of extra TLC but oh-so-lovable. He wasn't perfect in the sense that most adopters look for but he was perfectly-imperfect in our eyes & we appreciated his loving personality & the amazing uniqueness about him. Each morning he "talked" as if to say he was thrilled for another day. He had bad arthritis, a horrible bladder infection, and that was just the tip of the iceberg. But when he looked at you with those soulful brown eyes you couldnt help but see how precious he was. Thinking no one would want him, because of his special needs, we thought he would stay with us forever & that was perfectly OK as we loved him so very much and appreciated his quirks. Then one day, along came Linda and Kent. His true rescue angels had found him! It took someone very special to see past his quirks and truly love him as he deserved. Arthur blossomed into "Dudley" when adopted as he grew stronger & more confident each day. He earned the nicknames Dudley-do-right, Dudders, Duds and more. Dudley joined his Mom for craft classes each week, quickly winning over the ladies there. He joined his Dad for daily walks, which were a favorite part of each day. He went for water therapy, where he almost got kicked out for pooping in the pool. Yes, that's our silly Duds! He travelled with his Mom and Dad to Texas, where he met his siblings(both people and puppy). He was a superstar at the local coffee shop too. Dudley sure did have a most wonderful year with Linda and Kent. Duds passed away, with Mom and Dad by his side, and is now running around, chasing the girls, and rolling in the soft green grass over the Rainbow Bridge. You had to meet Duds to appreciate him and we're so thankful Linda and Kent, Rani and Katrina, opened their hearts and home to our dear Dudley.

Two Oldie Goldie boys....Twice the Fun, Double the Love(and yes, double trouble:)

Don't be sad about my leaving, I am only going Home to relax before the next adventure. Everyone needs a holiday:) My life continues forever, you can be assured of that. I have done well for you. Now it is time for me to move on and learn new things.

Love, Freddie

Freddie(left) and Frankie(far right) touched many hearts, brought so much love to us all, and even brought strangers together who became lifelong friends. They worked their magic in cahoots with each other, like Abbot and Costello, Zin and Zen, the sun and moon and later were joined by their Golden sister, Frannie...who completed the team known as the 3 stooges. They sure were a travelling comedy act as they travelled from Cody, WY to Loveland, CO to Denver, Colorado Springs and more...always touching hearts, spreading love and happiness and making people laugh with their silly antics. Freddie once got a "citation" for not obeying the leash law as strolling thru downtown Cody one day. He was walking along, minding his own business, carrying his own leash and the policeman said he was giving him a "warning". The rest of knew Freddie was the only sheriff in town:) Frankie, soon after being adopted, developed a tumor on his back right paw. It was amputated and he sported a prosthetic foot, with seasonal and holiday decorative socks. He beat cancer many times and in July 2011, the two boys along with friends, completed the Bark For Life walk in Cody, raising funds and awareness for canine cancer. There Frankie was awarded his purple heart, his survivor medal. What a proud moment for everyone there.
Freddie celebrated his 14th birthday in July 2011. It was a huge extravaganza, Fiesta Freddie, attended by people and doggie friends from all over
!
The boys were originally given up, as seniors, due to divorce. They were adopted by a very special family who made them the center of their lives. They went hiking in the Rockies, explored Yellowstone, supervised Dad fly-fishing, became famous in their small town, and had the very best lives and the most love ever. What they gave all of us who knew them in return was far more than we could have given them. But that's just the way dogs are, right?

Freddie passed in January 2012 and Frankie was lost without his big brother. Frankie passed soon after. Now they are together again, Freddie causing trouble and Frankie taking the blame, just the way brothers do for each other.

Dear Freddie & Frankie, thanks for the laughs, the love, the tears of joy!  thank you for working your magic to introduce me to your Mama and Dad, who are very dear, lifelong friends, who I thank with all my soul for adopting you and giving you the BEST life ever! Love always, your foster mama Shereen

Sweet Warren....March 6, 2012

Picture
We welcomed dear, sweet Warren with open arms and paws in February 2012.

He came to us from Oklahoma, where he was found as a stray. This poor guy was emaciated, sad & lonely. His elbows were calloused and scars adorned his bold face. His calm yet lovable personality soon won over the shelter staff and they worked extra hard to get him ready for rescue. With good food, daily walks and love he began to blossom!

Warren, a senior Shar Pei/Hound mix, had a unique, gentle presence about him. He was sweet, mellow, appreciative of the love he was given by his foster family. He spent the best weeks of his life there, dining on high quality food, special treats and having a comfy place to sleep alongside his best pal, Raisin(a senior Weim). He took walks in the neighborhood, hearing everyone comment on "what a handsome boy". He knew he had found a real home.

Suddenly, Warren showed signs of illness. He began to decline quickly & was rushed to the vet. We were sadly told he had a mass in his abdomen. It was inoperable. That day, Warren went to sleep surrounded by his loving rescue family. We're sure Izzy and other friends were waiting over the Rainbow Bridge to welcome him to a world with no pain, no hurt....only love, green fields to run and play in....Where Every Day Is A Wonderful Day.

Thanks to an amazing team of rescuers from Oklahoma to Colorado he found a HOME.

Am I not the most handsome boy you have ever met!!  Well I spent the majority of my life as a breeder and the man I lived with was not very nice.  I was the lucky one that I got to go in the shed every now and then.  My dog family and I had a tough time.  Then luck came our way.........the owner had issues so got rid of us and we went to rescue.  I was 10 years old, almost blind and heartworm positive - who would want "him" - suddenly I arrived to this great group of people.  They helped me with the heartworm and sent me to a FAB foster home.  That foster home knew someone that was just right.  So that is me. I lived the best last 2 1/2 years of my life.  Blind makes no difference - it is the nose that gets that soccer ball.  I went to the Bridge on September 12, 2011 with my beloved Mom and Dad beside me.  Guess who was my other best friend..........Izzy's Mom.  If you want to know about one of my best friends and senior dogs ask at Izzy's Place  izzysplacedogrescue@gmail.com

Sir Avery

Picture
My name is Avery (some liked to call me Sir as I was pretty regal).  I am told I was  lucky to find not one, but two new families and tons of fabulous friends when I was somehow alone and ended up needing help to get out of a shelter at 15 or 16 years old.  I know I was alone, but.....I think it was my own beauty and great personality too!!  This is me celebrating my new life  that I so deserved.  If you  ever think a senior is not feisty and fun, please  think again.  If you would like to know my whole story and about how  wonderful we are please ask one of my all time favorite people (and my good samaritan Aunty) at izzysplacedogrescue@gmail.com.

Dottie Pepper

Picture
I cannot figure out who could resist my beautiful face (and "all that" personality) but..........I guess my long time family decided I was no longer meant to be with them as I was "old"  (I wonder.....would they do that to their Grandma or Grandpa??).  Anyway, I was lucky that a great vet and rescue group saved me from being put down because I was "old".  Though the rescue did their absolute best a couple of people adopted me but did not think I was a "fit".  I guess they expected I would just sleep in a corner or something.  I was only 12 years old!!  However, then I lucked out and met a family who appreciated my "Pepper" - nothing "old" about me!!  I did pass at 15 1/2 years old but my spirit lives on in my family and friends as they now really know what "senior" is all about!!!  Bet you will be surprised.......another wonderful friend of mine is Izzy's Mom.  Check out her website at izzysplacedogrescue@gmail.com.

Ms. Marley

Picture
Can you believe feisty gal that I am in this pic...........this was the day I was deemed to be ill and to be put down by some people I stayed with - they said I was a bother.  Hmmmm........some kind people realized that was not the case, they took me to a nice lady's place as they were concerned.  I ran right in, grabbed the tennis ball, rolled in the snow (ok growled at the dogs a bit......) and raced around the yard.  My new Mom went YIKES (I was a bit stinky) but no way was I getting put down.  I got a bath from her and friends Adil and Gulmira looked after me like royalty.  My story is really long but I grew up in the US, moved overseas and though I had a loving family, much going on (you know, revolutions and things) I had to stay overseas when my Mom had to leave the country.  My first Mom looked for help and I found my adopted Mom and lived to almost 16 years old (I am a youngster here at 12 years).  I did not know Izzy or her Mom but - check it out at izzysplacedogrescue@gmail.com.

Simbah

Picture
Can you believe this..........I was left like a "baby in a basket" at my Mom's?  She came home from work one day and I was tied to a tree in her backyard with a note.  Who does that??  I was very lucky though as they picked the BEST person in the world.  I was not a senior (maybe about 2 years old here) but I likely would not have had much luck in the shelter in my hometown (people wanted puppies) - are they CRAZY - I knew all my commands (at times), no housetraining required (counter surfer at times) but I was just happy sleeping the day away until Mom came home and we went for a walk (so I could go to the dog beach and herd the other dogs and bark at waves). Mom really was not planning on a dog but......... I stole her heart (and many others) and we were together until August 2008 (I was about 16 years old).  My story is a bit unusual but I say rescue is always the way to go.

Tazzer

Picture
OK OK - hardly a senior in this picture (it was the 90's) - only barely a two year old but Izzy's Place said I could still tell my story.  To start sad..........I passed in 2007 at 9 years old from cancer (hey but my first round with that nasty business was 5 years earlier).  I was a cute puppy that grew and then got locked in the back yard as I was deemed "out of control" - hmmm - guess they did not watch Dog Whisperer.  They let me balloon to 100 lbs while I languished in the backyard with no walks or love. I was a "free classified ad dog".  Did I luck out that Mom read those silly ads (though Mom knew nothing then about big dogs and was a bit dismayed when I ate a loveseat). It's okay, she learned.  Took some time but I finally got her trained and became her beloved friend for about 7 years. I did not know Izzy or her Mom but know I would have loved them.  Youngsters like I do need help but we have a few more options.  Always think rescue.
